More interactive
Jared is becoming a lot more interactive. While reading his books, he makes the sounds from "Mr. Brown Can Moo," he does the motions for "Itsy Bitsy Spider," and he likes all of the things to do in "Pat the Bunny." He is naming a lot of things right now, like wall, ball, block, frog, gu-gurt (yogurt), ooo (cheerio), apple (any fruit), truck, among others.
Jared has hardly ever been sick, but he got an interesting one last week. Sunday and Monday he was running a low grade fever that we were blaming on teething. Monday night he spiked a fever, and Tuesday, he had a fever all day. He was not sleeping well, so he was tired and cranky, but otherwise he was fine. There was no sneezing or runny nose or anything. We took him to the Pediatrician on Tuesday, and she said that his tonsils and throat were a little red and swollen, so they swabbed for strep throat. That came back negative, so it was deemed a generic "viral infection," and we should call them again if it doesn't get better. Wednesday he was better, and then Thursday he got a rash. They were flat pink bumps, mostly on his chest and belly. He wasn't itching them, so that was good. Steve looked this up on the internet and found out that Jared had roseola. It starts with a low-mid fever, the fever breaks, then the rash starts. They can't diagnose it until the rash shows up. The rash has since gotten better and Jared is fine. It was just bad timing, since we gave Jared a bubble bath just before the rash appeared, so we didn't know if the rash was related to his sickness or the bubble bath.
While he was sick, Jared became super picky, and barely ate anything. He has since regained his appetite, but the pickiness is still there. He has some good meals, like he ate everything for dinner last night, but he only eats his blueberry oatmeal for breakfast. (Not that I can complain too much about him eating fruit and grains.) I believe that part of the pickiness stems from the fact that he now understands that he can ask for certain foods, and that he doesn't have to eat what we give him. He (usually) nicely puts his spoon into his dish, and hands the dish back to us if he is done or doesn't want it.

I have been getting pretty queasy in the evenings, especially around dinnertime. Although it has been getting better over the past few weeks, I still don't feel great. This is very different from Jared's pregnancy. I am feeling like I am showing earlier too. I am actually already wearing maternity pants, which is way earlier than the first time. I don't really have much of a belly yet; I am in the "fat stage" of pregnancy where your clothes don't fit and you don't really look pregnant yet.

Eating and Talking
Jared has been changing so much lately, it's hard to remember everything!
He decided one day that he did not want us to feed him anymore, that he was going to do it himself. He actually does a pretty good job, and tries to be fairly neat about it. He is still learning to take small spoonfuls of food, so the food that doesn't fit into his mouth doesn't go everywhere. We bought him smaller spoons, which has helped. He also needs to learn to keep track of his spoon. Sometimes he gets distracted, and has no idea that a spoonful of food is now over his head. :) He is getting better at bending his wrist to put the spoon into his mouth correctly, instead of sideways.
Jared has finally shown an interest in talking! For a long time, he was happy to point and grunt, but now he is making rapid progress in talking. He says yeah and no in the cutest little voice. He also says R and D, when we were spelling out his name. He likes to repeat sounds that his toys make. Food is also "hot" and he holds up his hand in a stop motion. He also says things like block, I am (for his "I am a bunny" book), and boat.
Jared loves picking out his clothes, especially his pants. While the pants aren't necessarily matching or even fit him well, I just go with it. He can be pretty insistent.
He sneezes when he's in bright sunlight. (I think of you every time, former roomie.)
When he rolls his cars and trucks around the house, he makes noises for them.
He is good at stacking blocks until one falls over, then he pushes everything down.
We bought some wall decals to decorate his room, which he loves! There is a train, airplanes, trucks, and cars. He loves running around the room and pointing to them all.

I'm in control!
Jared has started to exert some control over his life. He does this in really fun ways like refusing to let me dress him. He also sits down in the pack 'n play at the end of time out, when I come to get him. I think that's fine, and just tell him to let me know when he would like me to get him out.
He also used to be a solid 12:30-2:30 napper. Now he fights the naps so much that they are usually delayed, if I can get him to take one at all! I was getting 1:30-3:30 out of him, but that doesn't even work anymore. Gah-I really need a nap myself!
He also has started making noises for the cars as he runs them around the house.
He has this crazy laugh. It's a really loud ha-HA! And it makes Steve and I laugh a lot.
The weather was so nice yesterday that we took Jared to the park next to the airport. It's only like his most favorite place. The planes cross right in front of you, just before they land, and they are really big. The park is also on a busy road, so there are lots of cars and trucks to watch. They also have a playground and walking trails. Jared was so funny though. We took a break from watching planes land to play in the playground, and he was so upset if he wasn't in his spot (standing on a park bench, since the 2 foot height difference was a big deal I guess, when watching large planes land right in front of you) when the planes were landing. He would also squat and point to planes that were really far away. Who knows why, but very cute nonetheless.

Bite sized
Jared is finally starting to understand that he can take bites out of food, instead of shoving the whole thing into his mouth. Because of this, we felt comfortable plopping down half of a hamburger on his eating tray. I started by picked up the hamburger, and he would take a bite. But, he thought that the two buns were too much, so he would take bites just out of the hamburger and lower bun. Then he didn't want the lower bun either, so he would take bites out of the hamburger and the bun separately. I got tired of holding the burger, so I placed it on his tray for him to pick up and eat himself. Jared started bending over like he was going to pick up the burger with his mouth! I showed him to pick up the burger and eat it, and he was pretty good after that. And he liked to move the buns from one side of his tray to the other. He did this about 100 times. :)
I managed to scratch my new car before we even made a single payment on it - d'oh! I was backing out of a neighbor's driveway onto a dark narrow street. I knocked the mailbox off of its post for the people across the street from them. I guess this had happened so many times that they tried to move the mailbox, but people keep hitting it. I took Jared with me when I told the lady that I knocked her mailbox over - I figured she wouldn't yell at me if I was holding a cute little kid, and she didn't. I don't think she would have anyway. There were only 2 scratches on my car, most of the damage was mailbox paint that got transferred to the car, which Steve was able to remove.
Jared also went to a birthday party for a neighbor boy. The boy and his friends were all about 3, so Jared was the youngest there. He was intimidated by the older kids (there were about eight kids there), but was really good about playing with the blocks by himself. He danced a little bit when the music was playing. He also had a few bites of his first hot dog. He liked it, but didn't love it. He also had some cupcake with blue icing, so his lips turned really blue - it was cute. The party was a Spiderman theme, and they had a game that you got blindfolded and spun around, then had to put the velcro spider onto the web. Jared skipped the blindfold and spinning, but loved sticking the spider to the web. I think he really loved that everyone clapped for him when he did it.

Point, point, point
Jared loves to point at things and hear their names or sounds. This has been a good way to change up books that we have been reading together a long time. We have the "find a banana on every page book" (Goodnight Gorilla) and "find the dog/ snow dog book (Snowmen at Christmas). He also uses it to find out about everything around him. He really likes repetition too - he will point to every butterfly or flower on the page, which gets old for Mom and Dad.
Jared got a one-day cold last week. I am surprised how quickly he gets over colds! I think he inherited Steve's super immune system. Good thing he got better so fast, the poor little guy had lots of mucous dripping out of his nose, and he hated when I wiped it.
Jared enjoyed sledding with Steve and I in our backyard. The snow became icy though, and Jared had a tough time getting around. We've had a couple of rainy days, so most of our snow is gone.
I really like the local MOPS group (Mothers of pre-schoolers). It's great to go their playdates, but the monthly meetings with just the moms are great! We have a lot of fun, and I find out that I'm pretty normal for a mom of a young kid. (which makes me feel better) They even helped me craft a pretty necklace for myself, with Jared's name and birthstone. If you know me well, you will understandably find this shocking! :)
